인턴(Intern)

 

긴 호흡의 파친코를 끝내고 다음 책 시작하기 전에 쉬어가는 마음으로 시작한 인턴.

넷플릭스에 맨날 떠 있어도 볼 생각도 안했었는데, 공부하느라 보니 내용이 넘 좋더군.

책만 읽다가 대화체를 공부하니 또 그 나름의 재미와 쓸모를 느끼는 중.....

 

▶ relentless effort : 끈질긴 노력
   That is an ongoing, relentless effort in creativity.

▶ novelty : 새로움
   I enjoyed the novelty of it.

▶ hooky : 꾀부러 쉬기
   Sort of felt like I was playing hooky.

▶ globe : 지구본
   I used all the miles I'd saved and traveled the globe.

   The nowhere-to-be thing hit me like a ton of bricks.

▶ come rain or shine : 어떤 일이 있어도
   Come rain or shine, I'm at my Starbucks by 7:15.

   You name it. golf, books, movies, pinochle.

   They're great. I love 'em to pieces.

▶ rely : 의지하다, 신뢰하다, 믿다, 기대다
   But to be honest, I think I probably relied on them way more than I should.

   Which brings me to today, when I was leaving the market and caught your flyer out of the corner of my eye.

   I can only eat so much food. 음식을 먹는데 한계가 있다.
   There's only so many hours in the day.

▶ slam : 해야할 일이 많은
   Customer service is slammed.
   I slammed with tests.

▶ run out of : 다 써버리다, 바닥이 나고 있다
   We're running out of inventory.

▶ seasoned : 경험이 많은, 노련한
   take things off : 부담을 덜다
   Out investors just think that a seasoned CEO could take some things off your plate.

   See what it's all about.
   Love is all about communication. 사랑은 의사소통의 중요하다.

▶  literally : 강조. 믿기 어렵겠지만 / a single : 한개도!! 라는 강조의 뜻
   I literally can't afford a single apartment in all of Brooklyn.

▶  apparently : 듣자하니 (확실하지 않지만 본인이 보기에 그런거 같을 때)
   I'm in no rush, but apparently they are.

▶  I'm out of ideas. 나도 모르겠어.

▶ happen to somebody/something : 어떤일이 ~에게 일어나다, ~이 ...게 되다.
   it appeared = I think that
   I just happen to have looked out the window, and I appeared you were drinking something from a paper bag.
   Do you have a pen? 펜있니?
   Do you happen to have a pen? 혹시 펜 있니?
   Do you happen to know? 혹시 아니?

▶put together : 종합하다, 정리하다
   Your dad and I are finally putting together all out research at the hospital.

   He had a great run at Travelocity and Citigroup.

▶ Word travels fast. 소문 빠르네.

▶ Be there or be square. 꼭 와. (꼭 오라는 강조. 안오면 너 고직식한 사람이야 라는 의미 내포.)

   Have a good hump day. / 수요일을 hump day 라 부르기도 함.

   He wasn't a good fit for me.

▶ turn out : 전등을 끌 때 사용 / pull out : 촛불을 끌 때 사용

   Jule's driver is M.I.A.

▶ hysterical : 너무나도 웃긴
   Everyone thinks it's hysterical.

▶ go over : ~ 좀 살펴보자, ~에 대해 얘기해보자
   Before you leave, just gotta go over a couple things.

▶ slammed : 해야 할 일이 많은
   I'm so slammed next week.

▶ fixate : 신경쓰다, 집착하다 (시선이 고정되어 있을 때)
   I was fixated on this tissue paper.

▶ terrific : 아주 좋은, 멋진
   Matt seems like a terrific guy.

▶ He's the only dad in a sea of moms.

▶ take off : 급격하게 인기를 얻다
   When ATF took off, he left to be a full-time dad.

▶ saved one's butts : 힘들거나 어려운 상황에서 구하다 (격없이 친한 사이)
   Totally saved out butts.

   I mean, she works on all cylinders all the time.

   Why doesn't anybody tuck anything in anymore?

▶ breakthrough : 돌파구
   It was a breakthrough.

   back in the days : 예전에 / in the coming day 향후
   It was a few steps up back then.

▶ brown-nose : 아첨하다 = kissing ass
   I'm not trying to brown-nose you.

▶ run across = meet
   I've never run across anyone quite like you.

▶ You need someone to friend. 친구할 사람이 필요해. (friend가 동사로 쓰임)
    You can friend me. 나랑 친구하자. (여기서도 동사로 쓰임)

▶ jump the gun : 섣불리, 경솔하게 행동하다
   I jumped the gun and I made you feel....

▶ ping : 빨리 연락하다 (핑~이라는 소리를 동사로 사용)

▶ enlist : 협조, 참여를 요청하여 얻다
   I enlisted Becky's help.

   That is a fake alarm that she bought off of some infomertial or something.

▶ positive : 확신하는 (이라는 듯으로 쓸 때는 사람이 주어여야 함)

▶ be through the roof : 가격이나 수치가 천정부지로 치솟다, 화가 머리끝까지 나다
   I'm sure my blood pressure was through the roof.

▶ badass : (비격식) 거친, 공격적인 or 인상적인, 대담한 (거칠지만 정의롭고 추진력이 강한 사람에게 씀)

   That's a hard thing to pull off.

   It's still so hard for me to grasp.

   He acts out.

   You're not actually taking the rap for any of this, are you?

   He bowed out so that I could to this.

▶ back on track : 실수나 실패 뒤에 다시 정상궤도에 돌아서게 하는 것
   Thinking mayby someone else coming in will help me get my lift back on track.

▶ forgiving : 너그러운
   I'm not so sure I'd be fo forgiving.
   I'm not so forgiving.

▶ keep me up : 잠이 안오다
   This does keep me up in the middle of the night.

▶ meant : ~에 대한 운명을 타고난
   You were meant for me. And I was meant for you.
   We were meant to be. 우리는 운명이었다.

▶ sleep on : ~를 하룻밤 자면서 생각하다
   He told me to sleep on it and that we'd talk tomorrow.
   I slept on it.

▶ add up : 말이 되다, 앞뒤가 맞다
   I don't see how that adds up.
