Wonder - Part Three SUMMER

 

봄이 친구중에 summer라는 애가 있어서 이름 참 특이하다 생각했었는데......종종 쓰는 이름인가보다.

봄이랑 봄이 친구들은 그 아이에게 이름의 한국 발음을 알려주고, 여름이라고 불렀었다능~

		I wish people would stop trying to turn it into something major. 난 사람들이 그걸 중요한 어떤것으로 만드는 걸 멈췄으면 좋겠다.

 

[ The Halloween Party ]
brag	자랑하다	I shoudn't go around bragging to anyone that I got invited.
		The Goth girl getup that I'd worn to school. 학교에 입고갔던 고딕소녀 정도는 하고 갔을거다. ※ 과연 고딕소녀가 뭘까 곰곰히 생각해봤다. 아마도 야인같은 복장?
no-no	해서는 안되는 일	But even that was a no-no for Savanna's party.

crush on	푹 빠지다, 홀딱 반하다	I also told her that I had a crush on someone else that wasn't Julian so she would leave me alone about that and hopefully spread the word to Julian that I wasn't interested.
gross	역겨운	I actually looked away because between the way he was chewing, which almost seemed like he was being gross on purpose, and the way his eyes were just kind of closed down, I was getting a really bad vibe from him. Last time I was there it was to gross, like with soda cans and broken bottles and stuff. [Private School]

psyched	들뜬	I said, maybe a little overexcited because I was trying to get him psyched up.
		I put my hands up in the air so he could see I wan't crossing my fingers. ※ 손가락을 꼬는 것은 행운을 비는 손짓이긴 하지만, 손가락이나 발가락을 뒤로 감추고 꼬면 거짓말을 하고 있단 표시이기도 하다. 즉 서머가 자긴 절대 거짓말을 하고 있지 않단 표시를 한 것.

bad-mouthing	~에 대해 안 좋게 말하다	Basically, he heard Jack bad-mouthing him and saying really horrible things behind his back.

		This Kid Is Rated R ※ 대체 이게 무슨 뜻일까 고민.......번역서엔 '이 아이는 제한등급임' 이라고 되어 있더군.

hesitated	망설이다	I hesitated. ※ 수없이 보는 단어인데 이게 왜 그렇게 안외워지는지~
guts	용기	I've been wanting to ask hime this for a while but I've always lost the guts to ask.
relieve	완화하다, 안도하게 하다	I was so relieved that he didn't seem mad or sad.

 

[ The Egyptian Tomb ]
giddy	어지러운, 들뜬	On the day of Egyptian Museum exhibit, we were all really excited and kind of giddy.
archaeologist	고고학자	Some of the kids were Indiana Jones-type archaeologists.
		"Hey, Summer," said Jack, who came over to talk to me. ※ 실제 말할때도 관계대명사 사용이 이리 자유로움 얼마나 좋을까. 그저 주어동사로 시작되는 문장만 주구장창 쓰는데 늘리가 있나~ㅠ.ㅠ
bummed	낙담한	He seemed bummed.
oath	맹세	I wasn't about to break my solid oath that I wouldn't tell anyone about what he overheard at Halloween, but I felt bad for Jack.
