Stay put : 꼼짝말고 가만히 있어

job : 영국식 발음은 '잡' 보다 '죱' 에 가까움

take a job : 일을 맡는다

took this job 한 후에 I'd discuessed 했으므로 여기서 I'd = I had : 과거 + 과거완료 형태

 

You're supposed to rough them up a bit, take what's stolen and that's it!

be supposed to : ~하기로 되어 있다. ed 발음 거의 안남

rough : 거친, 난폭한

rough ~ up : 손 좀 봐주다

beat ~ up : 심하게 때리다. 강도가 조금 다름

that's it = that's all : 그게 다야

that's enough : 그만 좀 해

 

He make a promise!

make a promise : 약속하다

 

I'll see what I can do!

I'll see : 노력해 볼게. 여기서 see는 진짜 '보다' 는 뜻 아님

watch one's back : 감시하다, 지켜보다, 뒤를 봐주다, 엄호하다

it's time for you to : ~할 시간이다

make up one's mind : 결심하다

put the gun down = drop the gun : 총을 내리다

I need you to ~ : 네가 꼭 ~ 해야 한다

pistol : 권총

rifle : 소총(긴거)

water gun = water pistol 물총

 

 

SCENE 32 기습

 

I thought you should finish washing your hair.

I thought you should do something : 나는 당신이 ~ 해야 한다고 생각한다

I thought you should know : 네가 ~ 를 알아야 한다고 생각했다

 

She was bigger than you...tall, beautiful, proud woman. Strong as an ox!

proud : 자존심이 강한

ox : 황소. 매우 강하다는 표현

strong as an ox : 황소처럼 힘이 센

ox tail : 소꼬리. 이때 빼고 ox라는 단어 잘 안 씀

 

I removed the bullets from that one, so no shooting.

remove = take out : 제거하다, 치우다

pull the trigger : 방아쇠를 당기다

bullet : 총알

 

Now you give me the documents, yes?

명령후 확인할 때 yes 식으로 덧붙임.

yes? : 해줄거지? / no? : 하지마. 안할거지? / 헷깔릴땐 걍 okay?

psychotic = crazy : 정신 이상의

unstoppable : 막을 수 없는

killing machine : 살인 기계   ex) You're a machine. : 넌 기계처럼 일만하는 사람이야.

 

I'll punch you once again!

punch : 주먹으로 치다, 때리다

slap : 찰싹 때리다   

ex) It was slap in the face 뭔가 예상치 못한일. 모욕이었어. 실망이었어. 라는 식으로 사용. 뺨을 맞은 듯한 느낌이란 뜻.

 

I've just roughed her up a bit!

roughed ~ up : ~ 를 손봐주다

 

She is fit as a fiddle.

fit : 건강한, 탄탄한

fiddle : 작은 바이올린 같은 악기. 발음자체가 리듬감이 있어서 또는 활이 팽팽해서, 그런 느낌으로 사용 됨.

ex) I'm fit as a fiddle : 나 건강해요.

tough : 약하지 않다

put the gun down : 총 내려놔

frightened : 겁먹은

You have no idea. 에서 you have 생략

I do know : do는 know를 강조. 이때 do를 올려서 읽음

 

Everyone happy!

everyone happy : 여기서는 '만족하는' 정도로 쓰임. satistifed의 뜻으로 쓰이는 경우도 많음. (중간에 is 빠짐)

ex) I'm happy for you 정말 잘 됐어요.

 

To protect you, stupid girl!

stupid : 사람한테 쓰면 '멍청한', 사물에 쓰면 '빌어먹을'   ex) Stupid stick : 빌어먹을 막대기

let's get down to it : 본론으로 들어갑시다. it 대신 bussines로 바꿔 쓸 수 있음.

let A begin : A를 시작하도록 해보자

 

Why don't we start with this guy!

start with : ~로 시작되다   ex) why don't we start with : ~부터 시작해볼까? (코스요리에서 에피타이저 얘기할 때)

 

I can't stand him!

stand A : A를 견디다. 부정문으로 더 많이 씀. '참을 수 없다' 라는 뜻으로

I can't stand him : 걔가 너무 거슬려. him 대신 사물도 가능

 

You're his only child!

only child : 외동

sibling : 형제자매

 

 

SCENE 34 인질극

We're taking your friend for a ride!

take A for a ride = cheat : A를 속이다. '데려가다' 라는 뜻이지만 '속이다' 라는 뜻으로도 쓸 수 있음. 비유적 표현

You will = You'll see me following you.

 

He said he'd be after you in no time!

be after : ~을 찾고 있다. 여기서는 추적하다, 잡으러 가다. 라는 뜻으로 씀   ex) I'm after the tomato.

in no time = zero time 금방, 즉시   ex) I'll be there in no time. : 금방 도착할거야

 

It's the door being broken down.

break down : 부서지다. 보통 문 일때만 씀

knock down : 허물다, 무너트리다. break down 보다 보편적으로 더 많이 쓰임. 

 

This doesn't have to end with people dying!

end with A : A로 끝나다

 

You're about to go for a ride!

be about to : 막 ~하려는 참이다. 바로 앞 미래에 사용.   ex) I'm about to make some coffee.

be going to : ~을 할 것이다. 먼 미래에도 사용.   ex) I'm going to be a teacher

go for a ride = go for a drive

retrieve : 되찾아오다, 회수하다. 골든리트리버 golden retrieve -> 물건을 잘 찾아다주기 때문에

stuff : 여기서는 doucments라는 뜻인데 복수로 안 씀. s 붙이면 절대 안 됨.

apparently = maybe : 아마도

 

 

SCENE 35 데이비드의 속임수

So when were you gonna tell me you're working for Murray?

work for + 사람/회사 : ~에서 일하다, ~ 밑에서 일하다

work under : 밑에서 일하다의 의미로 보면 틀렸다고는 할 수 없지만 이렇게는 잘 안 씀

 

He blackmailed me into this!

blackmail A into B : A를 협박해서 B 하도록 하다

talk A into B : A를 설득해서 B 하도록 하다

talk A out of B : A를 설득해서 B 하지 않도록 하다

blackmail = threaten 협박하다. blackmail 을 더 많이 씀

 

I wanted to find you because I care for you!

care for = care about : ~에게 마음을 쓰다. 돌보다, 라는 뜻으로도 쓰임 = take care of

 

Why is it obvious to a Russian thug, but not to you! 왜 러시아 깡패한테는 분명한데, 왜 너한텐 안 그래!

thug : 갱스터, 깡패

deliver : 배달하다

I'm to A = I supposed to A

 

For the time being, this is all that matters.

for the time being = for now = at the momunt : 지금 당장은, 당분간은 

this is all that matters : ~가 가장 중요하다. matter가 동사로 쓰임   ex) You are all that matters.

 

I thought your presense would make it easier for me, but no!

presence : 있음, 존재

 

You distracting me, and makeing me vulnerable.

distract : 집중이 안되게 하다, 산만하게 하다   ex) distracted driver 집중이 안되는 운전기사

vulnerable : ~에 취약한   ex) I'm vulnerable to criticism. 나는 비판에 취약한 사람이야

 

This transaction has to take place tonight!

transaction = deal : 거래

take place : 발생하다. 어떤 일이나 상황 따위가 발생하다.

ex) The party will happen today = The party will take place today 오늘 파티가 열릴거에요

 

You're not the only person being blackmailed here.

here : 여기에선 in this situation 의 뜻으로 쓰임

 

I was on the point of giving up on my previous life.

on the point of : ~하려는 찰나에

give up on A  : A를 포기하다

botch up : ~를 엉망으로 만들다. 망치다   ex) I botched up the pasta

I don't give a shit! 신경 안 써(비속어)

I don't care : 같은 뜻. 이걸 더 많이 씀.

 

I've been tricked by him again!

trick A : A에게 다른 생각을 하게 함 = cheating

But in the end it's all about him!

in the end : 결국에는

it's all about him = sefish : 매우 이기적이고 자기 중심적인 사람  ex) It's all about money : 돈이 젤 중요해

He is what he is. 그는 원래 그래

ex) I'm what i am 나 원래 그런 사람이야

 

Not much can be done to make hime different.

not much can be done : ~를 위해 많은 것을 할 수 없다

be okay with : ~가 괜찮다
