Olive Green English B1 SCENE 25~30

 

그냥 올리브그린이라 이름붙인 영어강의인줄로만 알고 신청했는데,

알고보니 이게 영화 제목이었어 ㅋ 것도 영어 학습을 위해 만들어진~~~오~

기초는 좀 쉬울거 같아 중급으로 골랐더니 영화 중간부터 ㅋㅋ 뭥미~

뭐어~~ 뭐가 중요하겠어. 일단 열심히 들어 봅시다!!

 

 

SCENE 25 러시아 마피아 소굴

 

Your boy has been gambling heavily for at least half a year, or so....

heavy gamble : 안 좋은 습관일때 주로 heavy를 사용하여 표현

half a year : 반년

one and a half years : 1년 반 (a의 위치를 잘보고 올바르게 써야 함)

or so~ : ~쯤

 

Mostly dogs....

dogs : 개 경주(dog races)를 그냥 이렇게 표현하기도

 

We're not running a charity hear!

run : 운영하다

 

You will pay your son's debt by tomorrow.

by : 데드라인을 표현할 때

until : 몇시까지 기다릴께 등 기간을 나타낼때

 

My men will pay him a visit.

pay her a visit : 사람을 방문한다고 할때는 이렇게 쓰지만

pay a visit to musuem : 장소일때는 to를 써서

 

He wants me to go to Oxford to witness his graduation.

witness : 증인이라는 뜻이지만 특별한 행사에 참여해서 지켜본다는 뜻으로도 쓰임

I go to Oxford : 나 옥스포드 다녀. 굳이 attand라는 단어 쓰지 않아도 됨. 다녔어라고 할때도 went면 충분

I work for Google : 직장을 다닌다고 할때는 go가 아니라 work for

 

Waste of time if you ask me!

if you ask me : 내 생각에는

 

And I'm going to team him up with Vlad!

team A up with B : A와 B를 팀이 되게 해 줌

영국에서만 쓰는 젠장

get in touch with : 누군가에게 연락하다

be in touch with : 누군가와 연락을 주고 받다

SCENE 26 코롤료프 부자

 

If I use the same one for longer than two weeks, the police will come knocking at my door.

knock on one's door = knock at one's door

I'll be knocking at your door. : 누군가 찾아온다고 할때는 at을 주로 씀

 

The police will stop bothering you when you get a normal profession!

bother : 신경쓰이게 하다, 괴롭히다

profession : 직업. job과 같은 뜻이지만 알바 같은 것을 표현할 때는 잘 안씀. 전문적인 직업 말할때

 

My profession paid your tuituon fees at bloody Oxford and got you the fancy car you came in here!

tuition fees 학비

bloody oxford : 망할 옥스포드 (비싸서? ㅋㅋ)

fancy car : 멋진 차

 

Don't you tell me.

you를 넣으면 뭔가 강조의 의미가 됨

 

I screwed up.

screw up = mess up : 망쳤어, 라는 비슷한 뜻이지만 screw up가 좀 더 강한 의미. ruin도 비슷하게 사용

 

What am I supposed to do with?

be suppose to do : ~하기로 되어 있다

We were supposed to meet at 7. 우리 7시에 만나기로 되어 있었잖아. ed발음은 약하게 해도 됨

 

Shoot who?

Whe do you like most? 와 같은 맥락으로 who를 사용. whom이라 생각하고 해석하면 됨

 

Keep it within reasonable bounds.

bounds : 경계, 선

out of bounds : 경계 밖 (골프에서 OB났다고 할때)

within resonable bounds : 적정한 선

 

I'm so happy this education nightmare is over.

happy = glad 의 의미로도 많이 쓰임

job proposal : 일을 제안하다

even 때문에 시작하지마 보다는 시작도 하지마, 말도 꺼내지마....라고 해석 됨

delicate : 민감한, 까다로운, 부서지기 쉬운

be involved in ~ : ~에 연루되다

새로온 사람이라는 뜻으로 많이 쓰임 

newbie : 신참

lousy = terrible

ask A for B : A에게 B를 부탁하다

 

Mind you, I've been supporting you for years.

mind you : actually랑 비슷하게 쓰임. 뭐랄까, 그러니까, 사실...이런 뜻

support : 지지하다, 도와주다로 많이 쓰이지만 부양하다 로도 쓰임

breadwinner : 가장

remove : 얼룩을 제거하다, 치우다

have a look = take a look : 한번 보다

 

Let me make this clear.

분명히 말하는데, 짚고 넘어갈게 등으로 쓰임. 통째로 외워서 사용하면 좋음.

 

You are not allowed to touch any buttons.

be not allowed to ~ : ~가 허용되지 않는다.

 

You ought to stay in the car.

ought to = should : ~해야 한다

 

We don't want to draw anyone's attention.

draw A attention : A의 관심을 끌다

 

Blending in - this is what we're aiming for.

blending in : 튀지마.

food blender : 믹서기

aim : 목표

aim for A : A를 목표로 하다

 

You leave me no choice.

선택이 남아 있지 않아 -> 선택의 여지를 주지 않는다는 뜻

with no choice 처럼 with를 함께 쓰기도 함

 

I'm awfully sorry.

awful : 끔찍한 이라는 뜻이지만 awfully 는 very very와 같이 강조할 때 씀

watch : 망을보다, 감시하다 

 

One thing that always pzzles me is the popularity of polo shirts among me.

puzzle : 이해할 수 없게 만든다

among men : 남자들 사이에서

 

Why would anyone wants to wear one?

wear one, wear it : 둘다 가능하지만 it은 정해진 거, one는 앞에 말한거 또는 막연한 것

They make you look unmanly would be the word. unmanly가 그 단어가 되겠네. 

unmanly : 남성답지 못하다

And the popped collar, dear good!

popped collar : 세운 옷깃

pop-up store : 갑자기 생긴 임시 상점. pop이라는 단어가 소리에서 비롯된거라서 이런식으로 많이 쓰임

dear god : 감탄사

fashion crime : 패션을 망치는, 감각이 없다 (패션테러라는 뜻이지만 영어로는 그렇게 안 씀)

fashion criminal : 패션테러리스트

fashion police : 패션에 대해 지적하는 사람 

 

You'd look so much better if you wore a plain T-shirt.

plain : 스탠드, 노멀. 여기서는 칼라 없는 면티

plain t-shirt : 평범한 티셔츠. 셔츠라고 한다고 해서 t-shirts 라고 하면 안됨.

우리가 보통 평범한 티셔츠를 흰티라고 표현하는데 그렇다고 해서 a white T 라고 쓰면 안됨.

sport : 역시 우린 스포츠라고 읽지만 s 안 붙음

 

I'd have to see you in it first. 빨간색을 입은건 내가 먼저 봐야할거 같아.

I'm wearing a red dress = I'm in a red dress : 나 빨간 드레스 입다, 를 요 두가지로 표현 가능

leave me alone : 나를 혼자 있게 놔둬

for a second : 잠시

invention : 발명품이라는 뜻이지만 패션에도 씀

 

Would I look like a Brit in a shirt like this?

brit : 영국인 가리키는 속어. briton 라고도 씀

 

Would I blend in?

blend in : 조화를 이루다. 섞여 들다

pay for : 비용을 지불하다

 

 

SCENE 29 블라드의 과거

 

A loose cannon, dad!

A loose cannon : 고정되지 않은(헐거운) 대포. 대포가 헐거우면 예측불가. 따라서 예측할 수 없는~ 이라는 뜻.

= Someone is little bit crazy : 종잡을수 없는 사람

That's what he is! = That's who he is! 

둘다 가능하지만 약간 사람취급 안한다는 의미로 what 을 사용

 

A mindless lunatic! 마인드가 없다.

lunatic = crazy : 약간 정신없는, 어리석은

lunatic asylac : 정신병동
 

you know what ? = guess what

He used to eat the leftovers from bins behind the posh hotels.

used to : ~하곤 했다 (지금은 아니다)

posh : 우아한, 상류층의 (posh hotel = fancy hotel)

leftovers : 남기다 = leave ~ overs

bin : 쓰레기통 = dust bin (영국에서는 주로 이렇게 사용. 미국에선 garbage can)

What poverty can do to your mine. 가난이 네 마음에 무엇을 할 수 있는지 (여기서 you는 꼭 너라기보다 anyone)

took A under wing : A를 돌보다, 보호하다, 거둬주다. 좋은뜻, 나쁜뜻 두가지 의미로 모두 사용 가능

 

He would collect debts for me, run errands.

woud = used to : 비슷하게 과거에 했던걸로 사용 가능

collect debts : 빚을 가져옴. 수금

run errands : 심부름하다. run 대신 do를 사용해도 되지만 run이 더 자연스러움

errand : 보통 밖에서 하는 잔심부름

 

One day, I was concluding a transaction with a few gentlemen.

one day : 과거, 미래 다 사용 가능. (언젠가 뭐를 할거야~ or 전에 그랬어) / someday 는 미래에만 사용

conclude a contact : 계약을 완성하다, 체결하다. (여기서 conclude는 프로세스를 완성하다는 뜻으료 사용 됨)

terminate the contract : 계약을 끝내다

transaction : 거래

 

It was a trap!

trap : 덫, 함정

one minute ~ = suddenly ~ : 함께 자주 씀. 예상할수없이, 갑자기 (one minute ~ the next minute ~ 형태로도 쓰임)

before I noticed : 내가 알아채기도 전에

one : 여기서는 knife

had one in my stomach : 칼을 맞았다

bare hands : 맨손

they told me~~ : 사람들에 말에 따르면. 특정한 그들이 아닌 사람들을 they로 표현

demon : 디몬이라고 읽어야 함. devil과는 조금 다른 의미. demom의 한 종류로 devil이 있다고 봄

 

The point is I owe him a lot.

the point : 요점은

owe : 빚지다

 

There have seen some personal tragedies in his life lately.

lately = recently : 최근에

personal tragedige : 개인적 비극

 

He's depressed.

depressed : 우울한

economic depression : 우울한 경제 = 불황

 

You leave hime with nothing to do, he sits in a hotel room, looking at the wall.

leave A with B : A에게 B를 남겨두다

 

He'll give them a scare, take back what they have stolen.

give A a scare : A를 겁주다

take that back : 다시 가져오다, 했던 말 취소해, 라는 의미로 쓰일 수 있음. cancel 보다 자연스러움. 

 

He may beat them up a little bit!

beat up : 두둘겨패다

get them : 잡다

 

 

SCENE 30 호텔 잠복

 

Every time I'm in London.

every time S + V = whenever

 

They ask zero questions and the hourly rate is very affordable!

rate : 요금

afford : 여유가 있다 / affordable 적정한, 너무 비싸지 않은

 

Ow! They may be broken!

ow : 악! '아우' 라고 발음

 

Dislocated at most!

dislocated : ~을 탈구시키다

at most : 심하면, 기껏해야

 

Judging by the accent.

judging by : ~으로 판단하다 / judging from 도 사용 가능

ex) Judging by your look, I think you're 19.

 

A hitman, no doubt about it.

hitman : 청부살인업자

no doubt about it : 의심할 여지가 없다 (통으로 외우기)

 

He'll definitely kill us the moment he sees us again!

the moment S + V : ~하자마자 as soon as 랑 비슷하게 사용

 

We're in way over our heads!

be in over one's head : 감당하기 버거운 / way는 강조할때 넣음

 

Your trust in the British police is touching.

trust in = believe in : 신뢰하다. (신뢰를 집어 넣는다? 라는 의미로 in 을 같이 쓴다고 이해하면 됨)

I believe you : 네 말을 믿어

I believe in you : 너라는 사람을 믿어 (능력, 인격 포함)

touching : 감동적인

touchy : 예민한 (뜻이 달라짐)

ex) He's very touchy 그는 굉장히 예민해요.

 

Leaving this whole mess behind us.

leave something behind : 남겨두다. 끝에 us까지 오면 일부러 남긴 것.

mess up 망치다

 

Why can't we do this my way?

in a certain way : '특정한 방식으로' 라고 할 때는 in을 쓰지만 회화에서 '내 방식으로' 할 때는 in 안씀. 그냥 my way

run away from : ~으로부터 도망가는

 

I'm a police constable.

police constable : 순경

 

I make sure people who mess things up take responsibility for it!

make sure : 반드시 ~하다   ex) Make sure you take your umbrella.

take responsibility for : 책임을 지다
